Currently antioxidants are considered one of the most beneficial substances for health. Antioxidants are molecules that prevent oxidation or cellular damage generated by toxic substances called free radicals, extremely unstable and reactive atoms that steal electrons from other atoms to gain stability. These cause the destruction of cells, being the cause of aging and of the appearance of degenerative diseases.
In addition to taking care of the health of our cells and preventing us from some diseases, there are other benefits that these molecules contribute to our health.
Endocrine system changes due to aging.
As we age, natural changes occur in the way the body’s systems are controlled. Some target tissues become less sensitive to the hormone that controls them. The number of hormones produced can also change.
Many of the organs that produce hormones are controlled by other hormones. Aging also causes changes in this process. For example, an endocrine tissue may produce less of its hormones than it did at a younger age, or it may produce the same amount, but at a slower rate.
